might 的用法
1.用作may 的过去式
1) 表示 “可以”的意思
He asked me if he might use my phone. 他问我是否可以用一下我的电话。
I asked if I might stay here for two days. 我问了一下我是否可以在这里住两天。
My mom said I might watch a movie after finishing homework. 妈妈说完成作业后我可以看电影。
2) 表示 “可能”的意思
He said he might be late. 他说他可能会晚到。
She said she might stay with her mother. 她说过她可能会留在妈妈身边。
My sister told me that she might go to Hainan in winter holiday. 我姐姐告诉我她寒假可能会去海南。
2. 表示现在的情况,语气上比may 婉转。
1)表示“可以”。
Might I ask a question? 我可以提个问题吗?
Might I make a suggestion? 我可以提个建议吗?
Might I enter the room? 我可以进这间房吗?
2)表示“可能”。表示比may 更小的可能性,语气上比may 更弱。
He might get here on time, but I am not sure. 他可能会准时到,但我不确定。
Mary might know Shirley's address. You can ask her. 玛丽也许知道莎莉的地址,你可以问问她。
He might arrive home this afternoon, or tomorrow morning. 他可能是今天下午到家,或者明天早上。
【高中以上】
3. 用于虚拟语气。
I might have never known this secret if I had not read his letter. 如果我没有读到他的信,那我永远不会知道这个秘密。
This medicine might have saved his life, if he had taken them regularly. 如果他按时服这些药的话,本可救自己一命。
4. 用于让步状语从句中。
Try as she might, she could not persuade her friends to go. 不管她怎样想办法,都不能说动她的朋友们去。
Poor though you might be, you cannot live all your life on charity. 尽管你穷, 你也不能一辈子靠救济过日子。
