现在分词独立结构

现在分词前面还可以有逻辑主语，表明动作的执行者。这种由逻辑主语加上现在分词的结构是一种独立主格结构，下面是现在分词独立结构的例子。

Time permitting, we will do another two exercises. 如果时间允许，我们将做另外两个练习。
The condition being favorable, he may succeed. 若条件有利，他或许能成功。

上面两个例子中，time permitting 和 the condition being favorable 是独立主格结构，其中的 time 和 condition 是现在分词的逻辑主语。

1. 现在分词独立结构的作用是在句中作状语，用于表示条件、原因、伴随、方式、补充说明等。可以把现在分词独立结构看成是状语从句的简洁表达方式。如上面的 the condition being favorable 相当于 If the condition is favorable。

Weather permitting, we can finish the work earlier. 如果天气允许的话，我们可以提前完成工作。 (表条件）
All things being equal, the simplest explanation tends to be the right one. 同等条件下，最简单的解释往往是正确的。(表条件）
It being Sunday, you needn't go to school. 今天是星期天，你不用去上学。 (表原因）
Night coming late, I must make the bed and go to sleep. 夜深了，我必须整理床铺睡觉。(表原因）
Almost all metals are good conductors, silver being the best of all. 几乎所有的金属都是良导体，而银则是最好的导体。(起补充说明作用)
John strode along, his children following. 约翰大步走着，他的孩子们跟在后面。(表伴随）

2. 独立主格中的现在分词还可以采用被动格式和完成时态，如：
The leaves being taken off, the plant stops growing. 除掉叶子，植物就不生长了。（被动形式）
The last bus having gone, we had to walk home. 末班公交车已经开走了，我们只好步行回家。(完成形式)
All the tickets having been sold out, we had to wait for the next week's show. 因为所有的票都卖出去了，我们只好等着看下周的演出。 (完成被动形式)
