限定词的单复数

英语有不少限定词。这些限定词修饰名词时常常会涉及到数量的问题。有的限定词要跟可数名词，有的限定词要跟不可数名词，有的限定词要跟单数名词，而有的限定词则要跟复数名词。写作时如果没有留意就容易出现语法错误。

1. 一些限定词只跟可数名词。这些词中又分为两类。一类只跟可数复数名词，包括 both, many, those, these, few 等。它们从词的意义上很好理解，所以不容易出错。另外还有一些固定搭配的限定词也只跟复数可数名词，如：a great/good many of (许多), a number of (几个), a great/good/small number of (很多)。
I asked her a number of questions and none of them were answered. 我问了她一些问题，但没有一个得到回答。
These books are for kids under six. 这些书是给六岁以下小孩看的。

另一类只跟单数可数名词，包括 each, every, either, neither 等，如：
Each person in the city can only apply eight facemasks a week. 市里的每个人一周只能申请8个口罩。
There will be two trains tomorrow morning, and you can take either train to get there. 明天早上有两趟火车，你乘其中任一列都可以去到那里。

需要特别注意的是 many a 这个搭配，虽然它表达“许多”的意思，但它后边的名词必须采用单数形式，如：For many a day, it rained. 许多天一直在下雨。

2. 一些限定词只跟不可数名词，包括 much, a good/great deal of, a great/large amount of, a little of, a bit of 等，如：
That gave him a bit of time to think. 这给了他一点时间思考。
They don't have much freedom. 他们没有多少自由。

3. 一些限定词既可以与不可数名词搭配，也可以与可数名词搭配。这些词包括 some, any, no, what, such, lots of, a lot of, plenty of, enough, less, more, most, a great quantity of 等。其中 any, no, what, such 等词既可以跟单数可数名词，也可以跟复数可数名词。下面以 no 这个单词来举几个例子。
There is no water at all. 根本没有水。(跟不可数）
To master a foreign language is no easy matter. 掌握一门外语不是一件容易的事。（跟单数可数）
We have no classes of physics this week. 本周我们没有物理课。（跟复数可数名词）
