名词复数错误（下）

通过上一篇《名词复数错误（上）》的学习中，我们知道了要分情况讨论，ch结尾的不能一概加es；o结尾的也不能一味加es。今天我们再来学习更多容易出现错误的情况。

（1）名词以f结尾，复数形式一般将f变为v再加es

误：	Some of the trees were already beginning to shed their leafs.
正：	Some of the trees were already beginning to shed their leaves.
	（有些树已经开始落叶了。）

延伸：此处可能有人会问，为何f要变成v而不是变成其他字母呢？这里涉及英文中的语音规则，f和v都是唇齿音，只是清浊辅音之分，因此可互换。

* 然而还有一部分f结尾的名词，只需直接加s。如：chief（领袖），grief（悲哀），roof（屋顶），handkerchief（手帕），gulf（海湾）。

误：	Referees no longer had to signal foul play by waving handkerchieves.
正：	Referees no longer had to signal foul play by waving handkerchiefs.
	（裁判无须再通过摇旗来示意犯规。）

* 另外，以ff和rf结尾的，直接加s。如：cuff（袖口），cliff（悬崖），dwarf（矮子）；scarf（围巾）等。

（2）名词sheep（羊），fish（鱼）,deer（鹿）,swine（猪）,salmon（鲑鱼），series（系列），species（种类）等词，其单复数同型。上篇我们说过fish复数形式可以是fishes表示鱼类，倘若我们要表示有很多条鱼，则应该直接用原形fish。

误：	There are many fishes in the pond.
正：	There are many fish in the pond. / There are many kinds of fishes in the pond.
	（池塘有很多鱼。/ 池塘有很多种不同的鱼。）
